Mental Health & Psychiatric Intervention
An individual’s mental health includes emotional, physical, and psychological well-being of a person. It thus affects thoughts, feelings and behavior and also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others at work, at home and making choices. CWC services include diagnosis of mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), learning disabilities, and ADHD among other disorders. Our services include assessment and establishing an intervention program for clients, medication evaluations and medication management, mental health emergencies and suicide prevention program.
In some conditions where there is an underlying psychiatric problem, the CWC Psychiatric team is available to provide the needed assistance. Psychiatric consultation is therefore considered appropriate if you need medical/psychiatric advice and treatment (medication and review programs) regarding your mental health concerns.
Children With Special Needs (1)
Children with special needs are described in clinical diagnostic terms as individuals who require assistance for disabilities that may be medical, mental, or psychological. Children with special needs may have mild to severe learning disabilities, profound cognitive impairment, terminal illness, developmental delays, occasional panic attacks or other psychiatric disorders. Children with special needs may also have food allergies, speech disorders, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Down-syndrome or autism.
CWC offers evaluation of a child to determine his or her needs for special education and/or related services upon request. The evaluation may include psychological and educational testing, medical review and intervention, speech and language evaluation, occupational therapy assessment and a behavioral analysis.
Children With Special Needs (2)
Caretakers of children with special needs experience fatigue and need support in order for them to be able to provide the optimum care for their wards. Psychologists play a key role in caring and helping children with special needs to overcome most of the challenges they face.
CWC helps to meet the needs of these children. Through psychological assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic treatments children are helped to overcome most of the challenges associated with their special needs such as behavioral problems, depression, anxiety and pain. Children with autism spectrum disorder, with learning disabilities and developmental delays among others will all benefit from the psychological services provided by CWC. Among these services include behavioral modification and cognitive restructuring, systematic desensitization, pain management and assessment for school placements among others.
Parents of children with special needs are also helped to manage their children with less stress. They are helped to better understand the conditions of their children and are also taught efficient and healthy coping strategies to enable them create a positive environment for their children to grow.

Stress Management
Every individual responds to stress differently and stress is a normal psychological and physical reaction in life. Although it is normal, stress in your life can get out of control and affect your life, work, family and relationships. When you are stressed, your body responds as though you are in danger. It makes hormones that speed up your heart, make you breathe faster, and give you a burst of energy.
Our Stress management program teaches you healthier ways to cope with stress, help you reduce its harmful effects, and prevent stress from spiraling out of control again in the future. This program involves changing the stressful situation when you can, changing your reaction when you can’t, taking care of yourself, and making time for rest and relaxation.
Alcohol and Substance and Rehabilitation Programs
Our Substance or Alcohol rehab is a treatment program that specializes in helping people with addiction problems. These programs aim to help people identify their triggers for addiction and then develop new, healthy coping skills to maintain long-term sobriety.
Trauma & Crises Management
Trauma and crisis management is aimed at overcoming trauma and assisting people in managing crisis. It is normal for people to experience emotional and physical aftershocks or stress reactions following a traumatic event. A traumatic experience is an event in which an individual experiences, or witnesses, an actual or threatened event, serious injury or death. An individual’s reaction to stress reactions may include intense fear, helplessness, or horror. Depending on the severity of the event, the signs and symptoms of these reactions may last a few days, several weeks or months, or longer.
Our Crisis management program offers immediate, intensive and brief professional assistance to people who have had a traumatic experience. The purpose is to help individuals cope and return to a previous level of physical or emotional functioning without being at risk of endangering themselves or others. This intervention attempts to deal with the immediate crisis or problem. Crisis interventions help prevent the development of a serious long-term disability that affects daily functioning and encourages the development of new coping skills to help the individual function more effectively.
